Our Team

Kolya Abramsky is an educator, organizer, and researcher on the global energy sector. His main  focus is on the questions of land, labour and ownership in the sector, and the social, political, economic and environmental conflicts which exist due to the fact that energy is a key means of production and subsistence in the world-economy. He has both organized and participated in a number of international seminars, conferences and workshops relating to the social and environmental aspects of energy transition. Over the last two and a half years, he has collaborated intermittently with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) in their work on energy and climate change. He has also published on this theme, including editing the book Sparking a Worldwide Energy Revolution (2010).  Formerly, he was a visiting fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies for Science, Society and Technology, in Graz, Austria, where he received the Manfred-Heindler Award for Research on Climate Change and Energy. He received a Master’s degree in Sociology from the State University of New York, Binghamton. He also worked at the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, in Denmark, where he helped to develop the World Wind Energy Institute, an international effort in cooperation in the field of renewable energy education. In addition to approximately 10 years of experience working on energy related issues, he has also been active for many years in a range of grassroots global justice organizing. Originally from the UK, he has lived in a number of European countries, and the USA, and South Africa.

Focus on the Global South

Dorothy Grace Guerrero is Coordinator of the Climate and Environmental Justice Programme at Focus on Global South.  She is an educator, writer, researcher, and organizer. She has both organized and addressed courses, workshops and conferences on the following themes that are under her research  interests : climate change and climate justice issues; China; regional integration/ASEAN; social and environmental impacts of free trade, investments and TNCs; social transformation and democratization. She joined Focus on the Global South in June 2005 and worked for seven years as coordinator of the China Programme and after Focus’ reconstruction in 2012 started coordinating Climate and Environmental Justice Programme.  She received a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies, University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. She has been active for many years in a range of national, regional and international social and economic justice networks. Originally from the Philippines, she is now based in Thailand.

Raffy Simbol or Qiqo is the current IT/Librarian of Focus. He joined Focus in 2008 but prior to that, he had been an intern of the Philippines Programme for two years. Qiqo takes care of the websites under the focusweb.org domain. He is also in charge of the Focus mediatheque and resource center. He graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree of Bachelors of Library and Information Science.
